BUTLER TECH
BIOSCIENCE CENTER
BUTLER TECHNOLOGY AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT SCHOOLS WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, OH
BUTLER TECH’S Bioscience Center, designated an Ohio “Blended Learning School,” was built on a high-profile Interstate site identified by MSP. Working closely with administration, faculty, and business stakeholders in planning the pedagogy for the new Learning Center, MSP provided leadership in establishing the vision for a 21st-century school founded on principles of “Blended Learning” and “Mastery.” These give students access to “no bells” classrooms, laboratories, and collabora- tion spaces to progress at their own pace.
The board, recognizing the importance of branding for this “School of Choice,” tasked MSP with the development of a cutting- edge learning environment with a design unlike any other building on Interstate 75. Based on sustainable principles, the iconic design features a simple sloped form of red metal panels on a background of black glass with a brick base.
The interior was planned around a central two-story learning commons with am- ple glass for transparency, featuring flexible classrooms and labs, open collaboration areas, and a flexible learning commons. The flexibility
of moveable furnishings
in designated open areas allows for and promotes project collaboration, faculty involvement, and individual quiet study areas. Multiple small group huddle rooms also provide a transparent but quieter environment for group projects.

Strategically selected site, near medical centers is a nice touch. Built for change. Limited number of traditional classrooms. Nice learn-
ing spaces. Good planning process.
