THE JAMES LEHR KENNEDY ENGINEERING BUILDING OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY
ADA, OH
THE DESIGN OF THE JAMES Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building is centered around collaboration, innova-
tion, and academic rigor. Nationally recognized for their undergraduate civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering programs, Ohio Northern University understood the importance of using the building to recruit and retain students, increase engi- neering laboratory space, promote the visibility of engineering on campus, and encourage faculty-student collaboration.
The building’s program focuses on enhancing the student experience and highlighting different activi- ties: learning, creating, and working. The spaces are functional, multi-purpose, and interdisciplinary. Flex- ible classrooms allow for
a variety of teaching and learning styles, and through our use of innovative infrastructure and layout, labs can accommodate
any engineering discipline. The building’s main feature is the central three-story atrium, which fills the sur- rounding classrooms and labs with natural light and provides an amazing view of the campus.
