National Seating & Mobility Launches NSM360 Strategy
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Thanks to its prime location in Hill Country, the J.W. Marriott’s panoramic views are gorgeous: wide blue skies, green woods, city skyline in the distance.
Those vistas were an apt setting for National Seating & Mobility’s 2020 Symposium, and for the new brand launched there: NSM360.
From Simple to Complex
NSM described the NSM360 announcement as a repositioning, one that more accurately represents the entirety of the client experience.
As Bill Mixon, NSM’s CEO, explained, “We are still NSM, but with a more diverse offering to further
our mission to help those in need. For more than 25 years, our primary focus has been on customizing chairs to meet the unique needs of our clients. However, we know that mobility goes beyond the chair.
That is why we have expanded our

mobility solutions to serve more people whose mobility needs range from simple to complex.”
That perspective is possible due to NSM’s expanding capabilities in the accessibility sphere. “As the trusted resource for Complete Mobility Solutions,” Mixon added, “we can serve our clients even more with mobility, accessibility and service. NSM360 describes this holistic
client experience, representing our breadth of mobility offerings from simple to complex.”
A Holistic Perspective
The Symposium always features clinical education classes, but this year, those were joined by sessions on funding and accessibility. In the expo, complex rehab manufacturers were side by side with manufac- turers of ramps and lifts. In a session called Mobility Beyond the Chair, Brian Perkowski, PT, ATP/SMS, Branch Manager of the Wall Township, N.J., office, described how a collabora- tion with an NSM accessibility office opened the door — literally and figu- ratively — to new mobility options, such as a power wheelchair.
That’s exactly the sort of outcome NSM is seeking with its 360° strategy.
“A client’s mobility solution may
be customizing a power wheelchair, helping ensure independence and safety in the home, or servicing equipment,” Mixon said. “Whether the need is simple, complex or some- where in between, NSM is focused on providing 360° Complete Mobility Solutions, and our goal is always to help our clients move through life.”
NSM tapped its own experts for many edu- cational sessions. ATPs Lois Tucker (left) and Lisa Cordero presented on neurologically progressive clients.
Servant Leadership
NSM’s holistic plan includes being an industry leader beyond seating and wheelchair provision. In December, for example, NSM formally intro- duced its Thought Leadership Steering Committee, a group of
NSM employees and other industry experts currently working on issues ranging from outcomes measures to funding for seat elevation.
“There are a number of issues affecting the CRT industry as a whole, and more importantly affecting the outcomes and needs of individuals we serve who represent a wide spectrum of disabilities and severe health condi- tions,” Mixon said. “Some of these issues have been challenging our industry for many years. NSM wants
to play a role in evolving the industry, but we can’t do it alone. We can set a tone for progress, but it takes a united front to truly drive change.”
While the Symposium is a time
to celebrate achievements, at this meeting NSM set a goal to “explore how a culture of leadership and the
