their wheelchair clients face. In
Jeff Wheeler’s compliance session “Doing the Right Thing Is Never Wrong,” Wheeler gave descriptions of scenarios — for example, a manu- facturer offers you tickets to a hockey game — and asked attendees to identify potential conflicts of interest or HIPAA trouble spots.
“It’s about integrity,” Wheeler said. “But doing the right thing can be complicated, because it’s not always intuitive.” Nevertheless, he added, “[Consumers] are turning to us for our expertise. People follow people who have their best interests at heart.”
Three Major Focuses
Swinford noted that presenters worked hard “making sure that there’s

a consistent message and it’s all connected. And ultimately, people do understand what we’re working on and why we’re investing in what we’re investing in — ultimately to better allow us to serve our customers.”
Also playing critical roles in the meeting were three major Numotion focuses. First: Reducing customer waiting times, whether that’s authoriza- tion from the insurer or the delivery of a wheelchair. Second: “The overall service transformation we’ve been going through,” Swinford said, “whether it’s the myNumotion app, or the remote service technology that’s changing our overall responsiveness and the ability to much more rapidly take care of customers if they have some issue with their chair.” And third: Clinical outcomes.
“We are launching our Peer2Peer review process, and we are really excited about this changing the game,” Swinford said. “No matter who you are, whatever your diagnosis or injury might be, you’re at the discre- tion of whatever ATP you might get at a clinic anywhere in the country and whatever experience they may have. They may or may not have experience with your specific diagnosis, your specific disability and challenges.
“There are a lot of diagnoses that are so complicated that having expert ATP resources who have seen dozens and dozens of these types
of cases can provide support and expertise to every ATP around the country. We have health plans and insurance providers who are incred- ibly excited about this. Our referral sources are as well. You may have
a very young, very talented ATP, but that talented ATP may not have seen every single different [diagnosis].”
An Impactful Meeting

to celebrate successes and to welcome the Wendler family, annual and beloved guests at the meeting. Swinford knew Trickett Wendler as a colleague when they both worked at GE Healthcare, and Trickett became a Numotion customer in 2014 after being diagnosed with ALS. Though Trickett passed away in 2015, her husband, Tim, and their children, Tealyn, Tanner and Torynn, have stayed in close contact with Swinford and Numotion, and the Wendler family attends the conference every year, in part to hand out a Numotion award named for Trickett.
