Pamela Isom
Deputy CIO for Architecture, Engineering, Technology and Innovation
Energy Department
Accelerating emerging tech. In 2020, Isom expedited the adoption of emerging technologies at DOE though the launch of the visionary Innova- tion Community Center. The platform consists of an innovation exchange, research and sandboxes for rapid pro- totyping, proofs of concept and pilot projects. Her team helped deliver an app in just three weeks that enabled DOE’s coronavirus response center
to track and monitor cases and make informed decisions in related areas, such as return-to-work policies. Isom is also leading research in areas such as trusted artificial intelligence and has developed an AI Risk Management Playbook that addresses ways to iden- tify and manage AI risks.
Nathan Jones
Vice President, Federal
Red Hat
Driving DevSecOps. In 2020, Jones and his team focused on improving government agencies’ cybersecurity postures and helping them accelerate development through DevSecOps. As part of that effort, Jones has landed Red Hat OpenShift — a hybrid cloud platform for application development — in every major federal agency. He also shows agencies how to embrace the collaboration that has spurred innovation in the private sector. His noteworthy successes include partner- ing with Raytheon on a DevSecOps solution that allows agencies to devel-
op apps at an unclassified level and deploy them into classified environ- ments and enabling the Navy’s Com- pile to Combat in 24 Hours program to rapidly develop and deploy secure applications.
Wanda Jones-Heath
Principal Cyber Advisor and Chief Information Security Officer Department of the Air Force
Keeping cyber flying high. Jones- Heath has been critical to the Air Force’s cybersecurity modernization efforts. In 2020, she played a leader- ship role in the fast, secure transition of Air Force personnel to mass tele- work. She coordinated with the 16th Air Force, the cyber and information warfare arm of the service, to ensure that the Air Force enterprise remains proactive on cybersecurity. She has also worked with the Air Force’s acqui- sition teams to ensure that security
is incorporated into the technology development process from the begin- ning and remains a priority through deployment and beyond.
Dr. Meredith Josephs
Chief Medical Informatics Officer, Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization Program Office
Department of Veterans Affairs
Health data wrangler. Josephs provided critical insight and medi-
cal expertise for the VA and Defense Department’s effort to adopt a com- mon electronic health record. She established the Joint Sustainment and Adoption Board, which approves all joint EHR content and configuration
changes, and developed a common approach to the complex sites where DOD and VA share resources. She has a unique ability to serve as a bridge between the highly technical aspects of IT and the functional aspects of successfully configuring and delivering those technologies. Thanks to Josephs, the program is succeeding in empow- ering seamless, more efficient and safer health care delivery to more than 18 million beneficiaries.
Brandon Jubar
Branch Chief for IT Quality Management and Section 508 Program Manager Labor Department
Aggressive accessibility. In just nine months, Jubar established Labor’s Section 508 office and began working with the department’s 27 agencies and program offices to achieve the “Mea- sured,” or highest, state of maturity in the Office of Management and Budget’s guidelines for accessibility. His team collected datasets from those 27 enti- ties on their compliance and accessi- bility considerations in five key areas and then created resources and deliv- ered training to elevate awareness of Section 508. Because of his willingness to delve into the weeds with Labor’s agencies to address their needs, Jubar has established the department as a leader in Section 508 compliance.
