OF ART

POMONA COLLEGE Mu- seum of Art is located at the gateway to Pomona College, which allows everyone coming to the campus to experience it. Located at the interface between the campus and downtown Claremont, the project makes the art and cultural experience of the museum more accessible and known to the college and the wider community while deliver- ing the means to make art
a more integrated focus
in students’ lives. This is accomplished through the careful integration of the museum’s world-class gal- leries and facilities with the beauty and character of an exterior public space.
The design process was a collaborative effort between faculty, staff, and stakehold- ers at Pomona College. The process involved Machado + Silvetti, along with Gensler, and their expertise of how campuses and students function. We also engaged the college and city in a successful and collaborative process to discuss the func- tions and aesthetic features of the building that would not only satisfy the needs of the college but would build upon the values of the city. This process helped Pomona College design and start construction on a museum that is a benchmark for any school looking to give their students an exceptional arts experience.
