AI Needs
Cybersecurity
at Every Step
booming in pretty much
Artifi cial intelligence is
every sector imaginable.
Enterprises are spend-
ing huge resources in the
development, onboarding, and implemen-
tation of the technology. But surprisingly,
according to the 2024 State of Cybersecu-
rity survey report from ISACA, many cy-
bersecurity professionals are being left out
in the cold when enterprises are crafting
policy for governing AI technology.
According to the survey of more than
1,800 cybersecurity professionals, only 35
percent are involved in the development of
AI policy for their organization. Almost
half, 45 percent, report no involvement.
But some security teams are making
the most of AI technology. Twenty-eight
percent of are using AI for automating
threat detection/response. AI is helping
with endpoint security by 27 percent of
the professionals. Other tasks security
teams are using AI include automating
routine security tasks and fraud detection.
“In light of cybersecurity staffi ng issues
and increased stress among professionals
in the face of a complex threat landscape,
AI’s potential to automate and streamline
certain tasks and lighten workloads is cer-
tainly worth exploring,” says Jon Brandt,
ISACA Director, Professional Practices
and Innovation. “But cybersecurity lead-
ers cannot singularly focus on AI’s role in
security operations. It is imperative that
the security function be involved in the de-
velopment, onboarding and implementa-
tion of any AI solution within their enter-
prise – include existing products that later
receive AI capabilities.”
AI is a rapidly growing, and changing,
technology that has the potential to im-
prove a number of different parts of soci-
ety. But when organizations are looking to
add AI, cybersecurity professionals need
to be involved in every part of the process.
That can only help improve the security
and safety of the technology.
