lower cost point with greater functionality.”
Intelligent Audio
“Having clear communication is really more than just having a per- son placing a call. With all the background noise, like traffic, having intelligible audio at the receiving end is critical as well,” said Eric J. Reither, principal, Security by Design. “It is more than just audio. Having the inclusion of video nowadays allows us to have better situ- ational awareness of who we are talking to and have the ability to see the situation and respond appropriately to it.
“Communication extends to cyber as well. With the Internet of Things, and all the threats for every edge device, it is critical that we can have very secure communications. We expect encryptions are in- cluded in the audio platform. It creates a safe environment for IT and end users.”
Jeff Stanek, president and general manager for Lenel reflected on where his company has come from.
“Lenel has been in the business of providing integrated access control for many years,” Stanek said. “We were one of the original foundations for an open architecture in security. An open platform delivers solutions that bring in best-in-breed technologies and allows customers to leverage our software platform to protect themselves and address their current and future needs.”
But Stanek has seen something emerge that is changing the industry.
“When we talk to our customers today, one of the changes we have seen is that we have this idea of interoperability,” Stanek said. “I would say five years ago, interoperability was a desired feature. Today it is a requirement. We define interoperability as leveraging our access control platform with video management surveillance and intelligent communications to deliver a full 360 solution. What that
allows the customer to have is speed of response. Incident manage- ment response is critical to every organization.”
Seeing the 360 Solution
As an example, Stanek said interoperability, or the 360 solution, should allow you to take an alarm that comes through access control and act on it through intelligent communications.
“Without the three pillars working together, video, communications and access control, you will have delays in response,” Stanek said.
Milestone Systems is a provider of video management software and is a communication partner of Lenel’s.
“We are a founder of the open platform community,” said Ken- neth Hune Peterson, chief sales and marketing officer. “The way we look at creating an intelligent world is helping the community not only have the picture but, just as importantly, the sound. The reason intelligent communications is so important to our industry and our customers is because it brings a voice to security. So why is it so im- portant to have intelligent communications? Simply because it aug- ments the data and augments the credibility of the data.”
Lindsey O’Leary, director of business development for Lenel’s ar- chitect and engineering program believes the key to intelligent com- munications is the intelligibility.
“Our clients need clear communications, regardless of the en- vironment or the situations that are going on,” O’Leary said. “The interoperability between intelligent communications, access control and video management, allows people to respond in a critical situa- tion but also helps with operational efficiencies day in and day out.”
“When we look at communications partners, we look for com- panies that have intelligent communications, that clarity of voice,” Stanek said. “And they must have the full horsepower embedded
