rain, snow, dust, heat or wind, as these systems are often placed out- doors,” Shanes said. “Intelligible means the device must be able to relay clear communication in both directions. There is no time to ask, ‘What did you say?’ or ‘Can you repeat that?’ People must be able to understand what’s being said the first time.”
A Solid Team
Shanes says what motivates the Talkaphone team is the fact that they are in the business of saving lives.
“Most people have likely seen an emergency phone as they have walked across a college campus or through a train terminal and they probably don’t give it a second thought. But, if a situation arises and they need help, how that device operates can make all the difference in the world,” Shanes said.
“It is rewarding to hear stories about how the products we make literally save lives. A student who was stabbed in the chest at a univer- sity in Seattle was able to make it to one of our blue light emergency phones and call for help,” Shanes said. “A doctor who had a heart attack in a remote parking garage at a medical school used our emer- gency phone and an ambulance responded in time to save him. These are real people who have been personally touched
by the work we do. It is a very gratifying business that we are in and when I say ‘we,’ I mean all of us in the security space. We are in the business of saving lives and it’s a real privilege.”
