THEATERS/PERFORMING ARTS
brought to life, as students
worked together to create the
images and map them for dis-
play. Students blew everyone
away with their skill level of
utilizing technology for the set
design, and we were able to re-
ally elevate the scenic style for
the show. Students were work-
ing at a college level, but with
their level of excitement and
interest they didn’t realize how
diffi cult it really was.
The overall production and
visual aspect went hand-in-
hand for She Kills Monsters.
VIRTUAL SET DESIGN OFFERS
SEVERAL PRACTICAL
BENEFITS. IT’S NICE TO HAVE
IN YOUR TOOLBOX AS IT
SOLVES DESIGN CHALLENGES
AND EXPANDS WHAT YOU
CAN DO WITH A SET. IT
SAVES ON COSTS SUCH AS
LUMBER, AND ITS A TIME
SAVER WHETHER YOU’RE
CREATING SETS LEADING UP
TO A SHOW OR CHANGING
SETS BETWEEN SCENES.
At times, there were 20-30 ac-
tors on stage for battle scenes,
and the virtual production was
able to really elevate the scene.
The feedback from the school
and community was over-
whelming again as everyone
appreciated the higher-level of
the production.
Bringing More
Opportunities to
Students
This fi rst school year of in-
corporating virtual set design
was a great way to introduce
students to it and get them
excited to learn more about it.
Whether students are interest-
ed in graphic design, sound, or visual technol-
ogy, there are so many opportunities for them
to explore the potential majors in college or
career paths.
The program’s next step is developing cur-
riculum for its technical theater courses. We’re
looking to fi nd ways to work virtual set design
into classes and offer students more hands-on
experiences. The future of performing arts is
exciting, and we’re thrilled to be introducing
the future to our students.

ing arts center at Churchill High School in
