a simple setup of a Mac laptop and the software Q Lab. The projectors displayed
about a dozen different backdrop scenes on the backdrops throughout the show,
and the stage crew was able to change the images more quickly between acts.
Students were amazed by the technology
and very excited to learn how to use it and
incorporate it into the set design. This show
got a ton of positive feedback from the school
and community, so we knew we would need
to up our approach for the spring show.
She Kills Monsters
As we prepared for the spring show, we had
more time to really develop a plan and we
were looking to get more creative with the
virtual set design beyond using technology
for the convenience benefits. We broke the
stage up and had different panels spaced
apart on the stage. This design was great for
stage blocking and made it easier for students
to find their spots. The design also created
a lot of negative space with the panels, so
we had a lot of options for different things
to display on some of the panels or on all of
them at once.
Scenes either had seven different imag-
es throughout the stage or one big image
projected. Hundreds of scenes were quickly
