The information is required to help mitigate risks associated with hurricanes and tropical storms on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). Reporting and monitoring continues during storms and until operations return to normal following the severe weather.
Through an interagency collaboration, U.S. Coast Guard per- sonnel are embedded within the Hurricane Response Team to bet- ter coordinate response activities, should they be required. “If op- erators curtail production as a result of severe weather, they must inspect their facilities before restarting operations,” Herbst said. “If damage occurs, BSEE also inspects the damage and the repairs be- fore permitting an operator to resume operations.”

Executive Order Signed to Protect
California from Wildfires
California Gov. Jerry Brown issued an executive order in May 2018 aimed at protecting communities from wildfire and from climate
change impacts by improving the health of the state’s forests and helping to mitigate the threat and impacts of wildfires. “Devastat- ing forest fires are a profound challenge to California,” Brown said. “I intend to mobilize the resources of the state to protect our forests and ensure they absorb carbon to the maximum degree.”
The order will double the land area actively managed through vegetation thinning, controlled fires, and reforestation from 250,000 acres to 500,000 acres. It also will:
■ Launch new training and certification programs to help promote forest health through prescribed burning
