ited access, and turbine manufacturer variables as challenges ad- dressed in A10.21, which establishes requirements for job site work and equipment. “A10.21 does more than communicate the require- ments of the standard. It includes nearly a dozen appendixes that identify additional considerations for specific scopes found in wind,” he said.
It lays out steps employers must take during planning and training prior to construction to help prevent injuries and includes general requirements for site hazard identification and assessment, coordination of roles, responsibilities and activities, training and orientation, and development of a safety and health plan in accor- dance with ANSI/ASSE A10.33 and ANSI/ASSE A10.38.
The standard says contractors must develop a site-specific plan that addresses the challenges of working in a remote location and the safety concerns that come with that, including lack of emer- gency response capability on site and long lead times for local EMS, lack of communication abilities, and environmental issues such as weather and wildlife.
BSEE Reminds Offshore Operators
to Prepare for Hurricanes
The federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement an- nounced that its Hurricane Response Team is ready to support off- shore oil and gas operators as they implement their preparedness plans for hurricane season 2018, which began June 1.
BSEE continuously works with operators to ensure safety dur- ing hurricane and other weather-related response efforts and to minimize the disruption to offshore energy production. “BSEE regulations are specifically designed to keep offshore operations safe,” said Lars Herbst, BSEE’s Gulf of Mexico Region Director. “Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico can result in platform and rig evacuations and curtailed production. Our hurricane guidelines help operators prepare and respond safely.”
Operators must report impacts to oil and gas production every day by 11 a.m. CDT to BSEE’s Hurricane Response Team. BSEE
