Acquisition Update: Ki Mobility, Etac & AEL Make Announcements
In the space of a few days in October, Ki Mobility announced it had acquired Adaptive Engineering Lab (AEL), and then Etac announced it had acquired Ki Mobility.
In an Oct. 1 announcement, Ki Mobility, which manufactures ultralightweight and tilt-in-space manual wheelchairs as well as seating and positioning components, said it had acquired AEL, the positioning manufacturer based in Milwaukee.
The announcement noted that integrating AEL’s product line into Ki Mobility’s Axiom seating line “is an important step that will allow Ki Mobility to lessen our dependence on third-party suppliers and create a complete end-to-end choice for seating and positioning solutions. We can now offer our customers a ‘Better By Design’ customer experience with improved product
choices, an easier ordering process, and faster lead times.”
Doug Munsey, Ki Mobility’s President, said AEL’s inventory, manufacturing capabilities and customer service division will be moved to Stevens Point, Wisc., where Ki Mobility is headquartered.
“A ramp-up of inventory is planned to make this transition as smooth as possible to limit disruption to existing orders and current business,” Munsey said in the announcement. “More details will become available
as we continue to complete the necessary steps to transition AEL to Stevens Point.”
Then on Oct. 6, Etac announced it had acquired
