NSM Announces Multiple Acquisitions in CRT, Home Access
National Seating & Mobility (NSM) continues to acquire complex rehab technology (CRT) businesses — but now the provider has also expanded in the home accessi- bility market.
In a June 5 news announcement, NSM announced it had acquired The
Medical Store (TMS),
located in South
Burlington, Vt. The acquisition expands the provider’s coverage not just in Vermont, but also in New Hampshire.
As part of the deal,
NSM gained four ATPs,
who will continue to serve clients from their South Burlington location. The Medical Store was founded in 1983 and was the state of Vermont’s largest complex rehab technology provider.
NSM CEO Bill Mixon said, “Expanding with new loca- tions allows us to positively impact the lives of more individuals with mobility challenges. We look forward to partnering with healthcare providers to serve clients in these communities. TMS has a strong culture and team. We are proud to welcome these experienced profes- sionals to the NSM family.”
Expansion in the Western U.S.
In May, NSM announced it had acquired Western Rehab. With that purchase, the provider added two Northern California locations in Santa Rosa and Paradise/Chico.
In a news announcement, NSM said Western Rehab owner Mark Hawkins had joined the national provider, along with three ATPs, who will continue to work from their offices at 3535 Industrial Drive in Santa Rosa and 6457 Skyway in Paradise.
Western Rehab was founded in 1993 and has focused on pediatric seating and mobility.
Mixon said, “Our vision is to honor the journey of independence for individuals with mobility challenges. Expanding our service reach in Northern California allows us to impact more lives with mobility solutions that drive independence. We look forward to working along- side health professionals to serve these communities.”
Mixon also praised Hawkins and his team, and referred
to Hawkins as “iconic in the field of CRT in California.” Hawkins said, “NSM’s client-centric culture ensures that we can continue to do the right things for our clients. The
company’s resources, systems and processes allow us to bring advanced mobility solutions to those who need
them. We are honored to be a part of this growing national network of indus- try-leading professionals.”
Then in a June 15 news announcement, NSM said it had opened a new office in Roseburg, Ore., a Douglas County city historically known for its lumber industry.
NSM recently purchased the CRT assets from Douglas Medical Equipment Supply (DMES), also located in Roseburg.
Wayne Smith, ATP, left DMES to join NSM’s new office. Smith has served CRT clients for more than 20 years, according to DMES. DMES will continue to sell home medical equipment from its existing Roseburg location.
Mixon said, “This new location allows us to bring inno- vative mobility solutions to more individuals in Oregon who need them. We are proud to partner with the physi- cians and therapists in the area to serve clients in the southern part of the state.”
The addition of the Roseburg office means NSM now has three locations in Oregon. The other two offices are in Eugene and Portland.
Expanding in the Home Accessibility Segment
But National Seating & Mobility’s recent acquisition activities aren’t limited to complex rehab technology companies.
In a June 1 news announcement, AccessNSM said it had acquired Home Safe, an accessibility company based in Tampa, Fla.
AccessNSM — the accessibility division of NSM — described Home Safe as “a preferred home accessi- bility provider for many third-party payors, including workers’ compensation administrators and Veterans Administration facilities.”
In addition to providing accessibility equipment such as vertical platform lifts, stairlifts and vehicle lifts, Home
