flowing information into clinical decision makers inbox, if you will, then that allows for, I think, the real true future design of healthcare delivery, when your care provider interfaces with you when it is needed. Not on some arbitrary basis, such as an annual physical.
What if we had actual data, around your blood pressure, around your pulse oximetry, around your weight, around other easily determined clinical markers that float into a repository and throw off red flags? “Hey, something’s going on here with Gary. I know he’s not due for a physical for six months, but if we don’t intervene a little bit more quickly than that, I think we’re heading to a larger problem that’s going to lead to more of an acute event, a higher cost intervention.”
There, again, how do you install and build that environ- ment of connected healthcare devices in the home? You do it through HME. I don’t see another way to do it effectively at scale.
So I think that it’s going to be a hybrid. It’s going to evolve and involve more cloud-connected devices in the home, and it’s going to involve, to some degree, AI machine learning to say, “These two markers are up and this one’s down. That’s a prob- lem. This is something where we now need to involve a clinician through a telehealth appointment to understand what is hap- pening, and then potentially schedule to bring that person in, out of this arbitrary annual schedule, because we think there’s an adverse event coming more quickly than that.”

HMEB: That can go even broader. I think about all the pre- ventative healthcare data that’s being collected, that never goes anywhere into the healthcare infrastructure. But, like you were saying, what if patients could share all the data we record — diet, sleep, exercise — with physicians who had a dashboard in the same way that sleep providers and physicians have dashboards to monitor people’s sleep hab- its? If they could monitor that entire spectrum of metrics, what that would do for sleep care or other forms of care, such as respiratory, or diabetes, or whatever?
Sheehan: You nailed it. I mean, if there are many points of data and health information flowing into the central repository that can then stack rank the criticality of any one data point and create some weighted average of David’s health score and say,
