ResMed to Unveil
First Branded POC
The Mobi portable oxygen concentrator aims to balance oxygen deliver, weight and battery life.
ResMed is gearing up to release its  rst branded portable oxygen concentrator (POC), Mobi, which will be available to HME providers later this quarter.
Mobi will be designed to balance of oxygen delivery, weight and battery life to ensure patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other respiratory conditions can enjoy a better quality of life while continuing to get oxygen therapy, according to a statement from ResMed. To achieve that, the device will build on the company’s work in portable sleep solutions, according to ResMed CEO Mick Farrell.
“We have focused decades of patient-centered ResMed technology and design innovation into
this POC,” he said. “We’ve achieved great mobility, comfort and therapy quality in sleep apnea treat- ment with AirMini, the world’s smallest PAP device.”
The ResMed statement also highlighted the key role mobility plays in COPD treatment. Increased ambulation and regular physical activity is shown to reduce hospitalization and death for those patients, according to a 2006 study published in Thorax.
“Our patients demand a device that enables them to get out of their house and travel to visit friends and family. Mobi gives the gift of freedom to millions,” Farrell added.
In addition to launching Mobi in the U.S. market, ResMed reported it is pursuing clearance to sell in other countries in 2018, as well. n
 Rehab Medical Expands Clinical Team
National CRT provider moves a key director into a new role and adds an experienced therapist to its team.
National complex rehab and wound care provider Rehab Medical Inc. has made two key changes to its executive clinical team.
Long-time administrator and company
pioneer Jarrad Rankin, ATP will move from his role as Director of Rehab to the role of Director of Operations. In his new role, he will oversee service, purchasing and insurance review, while also driving the company’s continued focus toward quality and ef ciency in the expanding market of complex and custom rehab technology.
Rankin, who originally joined the company as a sales assistant in 2005, helped lay the early foundation of Rehab Medical, which now oper- ates in 20 metro markets.
“Jarrad has done an exceptional job driving complex rehab over the years as it has morphed from one small part of our business to being a majority of our business,” said Kevin Gearheart, president Rehab Medical. “His knowledge and oversight of how we operate can now be utilized to provide more direct support to critical areas of the business.”
To further reinforce its clinical staff, the company has hired William “Rusty” Mattingly. Mattingly will join Rankin’s team as ATP Clinical Trainer, and will focus on clinical development of staff, technicians, and ATPs, as well as improving

The Spina Bi da Association (SBA) has appointed Lisa Wells, vice president of marketing for Cure Medical, as a member of the Board of Directors.

at medical device, medical supply and health technology companies including Cure Medical, 3M Healthcare Information Services, Ceridian, UroMed and SIGVARIS.
Prior to her current role with Cure Medical, Wells guided HME providers and medical device manufacturers worldwide as the president of Get Social Consulting.

The global wound care and wound management market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 4.3 percent from $33.9 billion in 2017 to $45.5 billion by 2024, according to research from data and analytics  rm GlobalData.
Drivers for the growth include activity in advanced wound closure; negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT); and cellular or tissue- based products. GlobalData also noted larger roles being played in the market by advanced treatments such as biosurgery products and robotic wound closure devices; tissue engineered skin substitutes; and wound measurement devices.
Where the HME industry is concerned, GlobalData noted that NPWT saw rapid expansion
during 2017, which was primarily attributed to growing awareness of the technique and its appli- cations. The research  rm highlighted disposable, or single-use NPWT products as a key emerging NPWT technology that will see rapid adoption thanks to their lower costs and expanding indica- tions, including the care of surgical incisions.
NPWT competition in the market has become intense, according to GlobalData, which noted that more players, including Medela, Nexa Medical, Stortford Medical, and Genadyne Biotechnologies, have received new device approvals. At the same time, market leaders such as Acelity and Smith
& Nephew are holding their own via a mix of product innovation and re nement. n
