2020 Federal 100
Lt. Col. Stacie L. Voorhees
Commander, 690th Network Support Squadron
U.S. Air Force
Understanding the attack surface.
In 2019, Voorhees expanded the Auto- mated Remediation and Asset Detec- tion platform’s capability and capac- ity, which is driving changes in the Air Force’s cybersecurity roles, missions and processes. In 2019, she added new capabilities to assess, harden and defend more than 650,000 endpoints in near-real time. She also overhauled governance to allow additional units to access the platform for their mis- sions and promoted education on the capabilities available to base-level personnel for local tasks, dramatically increasing the Air Force’s cybersecu- rity capacity. Colleagues credit her with leading a much-needed culture shift toward focusing on the user experience.
Mike Walsh
Vice President for Department of Defense, Intelligence Community and Federal Systems Integrator Forescout Technologies
A super-connector for DOD. Under Walsh’s leadership, Forescout is delivering core capabilities that are helping the Defense Department detect and classify network assets and assess its security posture
on millions of endpoints as part
of DOD’s Comply to Connect framework. Walsh is also overseeing the integration of Forescout’s technology with DOD’s other core cybersecurity tools so the department
can automate the mitigation of discovered vulnerabilities. With
his team’s assistance, DOD has grown the C2C concept into an enterprise framework that is significantly improving Command Cyber Readiness Inspection scores and laying a foundation for adding emerging strategies such as zero-trust architecture.
Gary Wang
Vice President, Cloud and Infrastructure Services
Unisys Federal Systems
Cloud and cyber whisperer. Many federal agencies rely on Wang’s assis- tance in applying cloud services to
IT modernization efforts. Under his leadership, Unisys Federal won 13 major new cloud contracts in 2019 to modernize federal IT services with cost-effective and transformative technologies. Wang also worked with the Professional Services Council to help the government address cyberse- curity challenges, including imple- mentation of the Defense Depart- ment’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification. His success stems from a unique understanding of how tech- nology trends support mission needs and a talent for knowing when emerg- ing technologies will truly help federal clients.
Garth A. White
Chief Information Security Officer, Science and Technology Directorate Department of Homeland Security
Managing against mayhem. White oversees approximately 300 research
and development projects on a wide array of security issues, including commercial aircraft vulnerabilities, homemade explosives and chemical detection. He led a new Traveler Verified Information Protection program, which provides integrity checking of mobile devices deployed by more than 40 agencies and is expected to save hundreds of millions of dollars annually. He also worked with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop strategies to ensure military readiness and recovery during a blackout. “There are very few people in government who have the sphere of influence that this guy has,” said David Wolf, senior vice president of Steampunk.
Gary White
Lead Project Manager, FedSIM Innovation Group
General Services Administration
Real relief with AI. As the leader of GSA’s Phase III pilot projects for the Commercial Solutions Opening and Small Business Innovation Research programs, White has opened the door to new commercial IT acquisitions and nontraditional contractors. His efforts helped the Defense Depart- ment’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center develop the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief CSO project, a $10 million contract that is equipping the center with machine learning and other AI capabilities
to speed damage assessment after natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, tornados and floods.
