As agencies move activities and resources to the cloud,
they should shift their focus from infrastructure to applications and functionality.
requirements and understanding what the agency needs from a technical perspective are important considerations, but agencies should know that there are cloud providers that can support their performance-level requirements.
The key is choosing the right cloud product for the application because cloud solutions are not created equal. Different cloud platforms are optimized to support
different kinds of workloads, and an application that runs well on Amazon’s cloud might not run well on Microsoft’s Azure, for example.
Analysts say most organizations should operate in a multi-cloud environment. Although agencies must weigh whether managing multiple clouds is worth the
extra complexity or risk to ensure that their applications will run better, they need not do
it alone because many companies offer tools to help agencies manage those environments. Ultimately, the goal of modernization is
to make the necessary application and business changes so that agencies can provide services in an optimized environment and in a cost-effective way.
