NetCents-2
provide a full range of services and solutions for network operations, production, and research and development — are available governmentwide without restriction. NetCen- tric Products and the two Application Solutions contracts can be used when an agency is working for or with the Air Force and needs to ensure interoperability.
The NetOps contracts are particularly valuable as agen- cies move toward unified communications, converged net- works and converged infrastructure. Solutions are available for email, storage and directory services; videoconferenc- ing, live streaming and other data-intensive applications; wireless devices; and “everything over IP.”
The contracts also boast imagery, modeling and simula- tion offerings that can power advanced research and ana- lytics efforts.
There is no service fee for NetCents-2 orders, which helps keep prices competitive. Smothers told FCW that the contracts consistently save buyers at least 3 percent.
Buyers also benefit from vendors’ obligation to ensure that all products and services sold through NetCents-2 comply with applicable Air Force and Defense Department standards, including those related to the DOD Information Network, Defense Information Infrastructure, IC Informa- tion Sharing Environment, and Air Force and Defense com- munications systems for computer and telecommunications network mission areas.
Although those compliance assurances are especially important for Air Force buyers, the strengthened network security that the standards encourage is valuable for any agency.
