PROJECT OF DISTINCTION
TALL HALL
BELMONT UNIVERSITY NASHVILLE, TN
FEATURING VARIOUS housing options for students and sweeping views of Nash- ville’s skyline, Tall Hall is the tallest building on Belmont University’s campus and the school’s largest student hous- ing project. Growth in stu- dent population created the need for the co-ed Tall Hall. Rising 10 stories and housing more than 600 upperclass- men, this signature building stands as a testament to Bel- mont’s exponential growth since the early 2000s.
The diverse housing configurations include about 40 percent suite-style with four beds/one bathroom and 60 percent apartment- style, ranging from single occupancy to five bedrooms with a living room, kitchen, and two bathrooms. The tenth-floor penthouse has four bedrooms and two bathrooms on two levels.
A fitness center open to all students provides additional on-campus fitness and rec- reation options.
Establishing new green space, the site features the university’s first natural lawn with a stream, wa- terfall, rolling hills, public seating, and a bruin mascot statue. The building pays homage to Belmont’s Geor- gian architectural vernacu- lar, while accommodating future student population growth. Honoring the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship, Tall Hall is designed to attain LEED Gold certification. Sustainable design elements include occupancy sensors, nearby material sourcing, VFR HVAC system, and low- VOC paint.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS
Pleasant living space for
the student with a selection of furnishings and finishes, letting the students know they are important and as a result they will likely respect the building. Attractive exterior building design, interesting ceiling lines. I like the varied housing configurations.
