JUDGES’ COMMENTS
Nice courtyard and connec- tion to the outdoors. Class- rooms accessed directly from the exterior is a phenomena of California and its climate.
THE NEW 32,700-square- foot two-story Instructional Building is comprised of high-capacity multidiscipline classrooms, faculty offices, and meeting spaces. The first-floor features eight classrooms with a capac-
ity of each serving up to 45 students and one forum- size classroom with a full capacity of 90 students. The second floor is focused on continuing the interac- tion between faculty and students outside of the classroom.
The upper level includes 47 faculty offices, a large conference room, two meeting rooms, staff lounge, and a student breakroom for students to utilize while they wait to meet with professors and advisors. The layout of the building promotes easy navigation and, thus, maximizes the us- able square-footage of the building.
The Instructional Building was thoughtfully designed not only to include elements of the existing architectural fabric of the San Luis Obispo campus but also to intro- duce new design elements to the building and the campus architecture.
