Rutgers Opens
New Science and
Research Facility
The new home for the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, NJ, which pro- vides expanded teaching, laboratory, and sup- port space, is open for classes and research.
The $115 million, four-story, 144,000-square-foot facility will help accel- erate innovative work in biophysical chem- istry related to human health, drug design, and synthesis, alternative energy, biomateri- als, nanotechnology, and other fields.
The building allows the university to expand upon its tradition of collabora- tive research with leading academic labs, federal agencies, and private companies in New Jersey and around the world.
The building includes a microscopy suite and optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography laboratories. The fa- cility’s modular design and versatile infra- structure allow reconfiguration of labs and classrooms to respond as teaching methods and technology evolve and the needs of students and faculty change. Rutgers seeks to achieve LEED Gold certification for the building.

Keys to collaboration:
Open sight lines | Multi-use desktops | Flexibility
SMARTdesks® flipIT® and iLid® mount monitors into the desktop so they never obstruct. Students and professors see everything—essential for active learning classrooms! Now you have the flexibility to change the lesson plan focus in an instant. Shown in Exchange Collaboration TablesTM set in triangles.
The iLid DUO Podium®
gives the presenter dual screens and the option to close them like a laptop when not needed. Plenty of storage and rack mount space, as well.
All SMARTdesks® furniture is made to order, customized for the technology you need to integrate, with colors you select for your interior design treatment.
