try executives have seen a marked increase in schools moving forward with their own plans. The University of Wisconsin tested the waters this past season with successful utili-
zation of Garrett’s PD 6500i walkthrough metal detectors at its basketball arena. Security solutions provider Buzz Wilmot, principal of Indiana-based H. L. Wilmot & Associates, has seen an increase in university security officials utilizing caster-equipped metal detectors for mobility. “Indiana University has been very suc- cessful in moving walk-through detector units between their football and basketball venues as they are needed,” says Wilmot.
“Proactive universities are complying with Homeland Security measures by moving ahead with their own stadium security plans,” says Joe Vazquez, a national security sales manager. “Such colleges are following the best safety practices of professional sports organiza- tions such as the NHL, NBA, and Major League Baseball, which have all implemented their own security screening into all events.”
The National Football League, which had previously implemented hand-held metal detector screening in previous seasons, now requires the use of walk-through metal detec- tors as well. “NFL teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and others selected Garrett Metal Detectors when they implemented their security plan,” Vazquez adds. “They selected Garrett as an American- made provider of state of the art detection technology that also offered their facilities a high-deterrent, relatively low-cost solution.” CPM
