HASTINGS+CHIVETTA recently designed three new projects for MICDS—Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School, a pri- vate K-12 college prepara- tory school in suburban St. Louis.
The Steward Family Aquatic Center honors the architectural context of
the adjacent McDonnell Gymnasium and creates a welcoming, flexible experi- ence for users. The Hall
of Fame space creates a formal entry experience, guiding spectators down the wood-paneled hall to the pool. The new natatorium welcomes visitors with its open and light-filled space.
The Ron Holtman Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium that accommodates 1,000 fans, rivals any small college stadium. A large pavilion offers concessions and elevated spectator patio. The turf field means decreased downtime and maintenance requirements compared to the old grass field. Built into a hillside,
the facility takes advan- tage of the slope for the grandstands. The configura- tion allows students and spectators to enter the stands from behind, and the team rooms are at the field level keeping spectators and participants separate.
The Holekamp Track and Field Stadium accommodates 400 fans and includes a press box and synthetic high jump area in the end zone. Designers raised the first row of seats to four feet above the field to allow spectators better visibility.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS
Nice open and light-filled space. Moveable bulkhead which allows for multiple groups to use the pool. A moveable floor bottom permits changes in the depth
of the pool in certain areas to accommodate different kinds of programs.
