Deploying IoT Devices Best practices for managing and securing IoT networks
“It’s one thing to have all this technology at your fingertips, but it’s another thing to understand the problems you’re trying to solve with that technology.”
The number and breadth of de- vices that make up the Inter- net of Things (IoT) continues to grow rapidly, with every- thing from kitchen appliances to video surveillance and access control systems offering the ability to connect to a network. Each of these offers tremendous value, but the true power of the IoT lies in the ability to connect disparate systems and
devices to leverage the combined data they produce to generate some valuable insight and actionable intelligence.
Integrations between IP-based surveil- lance, access control, intercoms, speakers, traffic management, HVAC and many others offer the potential to share useful informa- tion between connected devices to deliver a fuller view of a situation across multiple lo- cations than any one system could possibly
provide on its own.
The effectiveness of IoT networks relies on
understanding how devices can work togeth- er to capitalize on the combined strengths of each sensor to deliver value and solve specific challenges by collecting widely dispersed data from disparate sources to provide a complete view of security and operations.
Given the billions of IoT sensors de- ployed around the world and the value of
