Advanced Video Streaming
ONVIF announced the final release of Profile T, a new specification with advanced video streaming capabilities and an expanded feature set for meta- data streaming and analytics. Profile T also offers support for H.265 video compression, which more efficiently handles image streams from high-def- inition cameras. With Profile T, ONVIF will employ a new media service that offers support for both H.265 and H.264 video codecs. The media service gives ONVIF the ability to more easily incorporate new video and audio codecs. By supporting H.265, Profile T supports more efficient compression rates, which translates into decreased storage require- ments on hard drives and less bandwidth usage – reducing the overall costs of system ownership.

ProdataKey (PDK) announces the introduction of “touch io,” a new Bluetooth reader and credential- ing option for smartphones designed for use with the company’s cloud-based access control solution, pdk io.Touch io brings new levels of convenience and security for the communication between smart phones and access control door readers, eliminat- ing the need for cards or fobs. Unlike other systems, touch io does not require the user to unlock the phone, or to even remove it from pocket or purse, in order to gain access through a protected door. The individual’s identity is validated through com- munication directly between his or her credentialed device and the reader, via Bluetooth, bypassing the need for internet or cellular connectivity.
