The list for security integration in the education sector is a lengthy manifest. Classes, study groups, food and friends are essential ele- ments of college student life. For Contra Costa College, in San Pablo, CA, bringing it all together was top priority when conceptualizing the new Contra Costa Complex. TEECOM designed the integrated technology services for telecommunications, security and audiovisual systems for this three-building complex, which connects students through centralized buildings, walkways and roads. The new complex houses innovative smart classrooms and lecture halls with integrated display technologies and audio systems. Security solutions in use with this integration are access control and alarm monitoring, video sur- veillance, intrusion detection and an entry telephone.
At the University of California, Berkeley, TEECOM staff de-
signed more than four million square feet of campus buildings and served as a trusted advisor on over 90 percent of the campus facilities, including auditoriums, conference rooms, research facilities, labora- tories, lecture halls, libraries, office space and student housing. The security solution in place include access control and alarm monitor- ing systems, intrusion detection systems, video surveillance systems, duress systems and CCTV. Also included were a wireless design and infrastructure and a predictive survey.
While many of the examples and case studies are seemingly local, TEECOM has a universal presence in the consulting industry. You wouldn’t know it by looking, but the company added the security “SECTOR” only a few years ago with a staff of two people. Now, there are six security experts on the job, tackling some of the biggest demands in the industry, including an ongoing security project at San Francisco International Airport, several courthouses throughout the state of California and numerous higher education campuses, such as Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz.
The secret sauce for these security consultants seems to be consis- tent work with security integrators and building a strong dealer net- work. There also are strong partnerships with tech companies, and maintaining a strong relationship with the IT departments no matter where they plan their next job.
