In My Own Backyard

allas is a big city. That being the case, there is a number of players located in the Me- troplex that are integral to the security industry. Among them is Allied Universal.
In my own backyard is the Monitoring and Response Center, part of their Global Security Operations Center. Staff goals include deploying predictive analytics for activities like identifying suspects after a crime has been committed, or credit card fraud as it occurs.
What they are doing is what everyone is talking about; to include data mining, machine learning and predictive modeling. By collecting information, it is quickly analyzed for usabil- ity and quality assumptions. If this seems a little bit too far out there, it is. But it works. It is effective in predicting what a person of interest might be thinking or doing.
Who really cares about all this information? For starters, those who staff the C-Suite are very interested in this type of information because their business might have a global reach and they want to know beforehand if a situation might arise to compromise their staff or manufacturing facility. So, what you see on top of the situation may only be a limited vision of something far more devastating. The C-Suite wants to know what’s happening before it happens.
These collected scraps of information may be what lead to the powder keg, and if Allied Universal staff is able to warn a customer, that means they can keep a customer safe and secure. This isn’t limited to the information that you and I might see on a daily basis. There are truly evil forces out there wanting to damage or destroy something or someone.
This brings us and Allied Universal to the Dark Web. This is the part of the iceberg that is hidden under the waterline. The good news is that staff at Allied Universal knows where to look and they know what they are looking for so that they can keep a client safe.
In this issue of Dealer Strategies, you will read how predictive analysis was able to act on a tip by a mall shopper who thought it was just plain weird of a person taking pictures of children. The mall employee, who wit-
nessed this act, was able to respond anonymously and the suspicious person was taken away for questioning.
There is no doubt in my mind that an innocent life or lives were spared that day. That’s a big win for predictive analysis and risk management. I hope you will enjoy learning more about Allied Universal and what they are doing in Dallas/Ft. Worth. I was completely impressed with the staff, and time they took to teach
me about identifying the future.
