NEever Skipping a Beat
By Ralph C. Jensen
ven Mother Nature couldn’t turn the tide when CG&E Systems Group stepped into the security integration market. You remember Hurricane Irma, right? Well, both happened about the same time, and the winner is ... CG&E.
OK, it’s not a contest; just bad timing. That didn’t deter Dan O’Sullivan, CEO at CG&E, from moving forward. That’s not even the most remarkable thing about this story. CG&E hired Rob Hile, a good friend to become the general manager in Florida. The problem was, he had to evacuate his family and his home with the impending hurricane hit that was Irma.
Hile and his family found themselves leaving Tampa and lodging in Orlando for the unfore- seeable future. You can read more about Hile’s dilemma and O’Sullivan’s response in this issue’s cover story; Growth in the Electronic Age.
In my book, O’Sullivan and CG&E score the highest marks possible as they dealt Hile a dose of customer service that goes above and beyond. What’s the secret sauce? Employee empower- ment, and it is that focus that has allowed Georgia Network Cabling Corp., or the new CG&E to reach its growth goals every year since 1999.
I’ve met a lot of great integrators over the years, and here is another story of a security team doing the right thing, at the right time and in the right place. Their stated goal is to provide cus- tomers with technical insight, council, guidance and support when required. This is exactly what the company has been doing for years as it began as a voice and data company that has added security to its portfolio of services.
O’Sullivan said the company prides itself on a “One Team” culture that sets the stance on day-to-day operations. This is possible because they embrace breaking technology with zest, and expand and diversify products and solutions offered to the end
user. Who better than an electronics company to offer state-of-
the-art solutions?
These guys aren’t new to business, either. Its staff has sea-
soned managers, account managers, project managers, systems engineers, estimator and technicians, all with well-documented experience and expertise. All that aside, the company’s mantra is “customer first.”
With thoughts of expanding into the southeast, particu- larly Florida, CG&E hired Hile, with more than 25 years of security experience, and senior-level positions with some of the best names in the business. Hile opens
the Florida office in Tampa, and has started to build
a staff from among the talent base in that area. Hile’s
goal, and perhaps his top strength, is offering diverse solutions, especially in emerging technologies.
