Quite the Concern
Last month, I wrote a little about the Equifax hack. And, it has happened again. To say this is alarming would be an understatement. One of our most recent Online Exclusives, written by Chris Olson of The Media Trust, explores this data breach more fully and provides a closer look at the event, stating the breach is from a “total lack
of control.” He also says that it doesn’t matter if the hack took place from a third-party web code; “Website governance is no longer optional.” It’s now time for Equifax to use a vendor risk management program.
In another Online Exclusives, Jay Hart informs our readers on how to train like a first responder—which is especially important for active shooter situations. Having any sort of training or even the right information is vital. Still fresh on our minds is the Las Vegas shooting, and Hart discusses a few warning signs to be aware of when attending large events or simply being in a workplace where there might be a disgruntled co-worker. It’s extremely important to develop a plan and practice it.
Whether protecting your personal information or learning how to be better prepared for an emergency situation, it’s crucial to stay informed and to voice any concerns you may have—whether you’re at work, taking a train downtown or enjoying a concert.

Equifax Website Breach: Compromised or Collateral Damage?
By Chris Olson
Oops!...Equifax did it again. On October 12, 2017, news broke regarding Equifax’s second website breach, hitting headlines around the world. The consumer information services portal set up to help consumers manage their exposure to a previously disclosed website breach presented website visitors with mal- ware. This time, Equifax blamed compromised third-party web- site performancecode. With Equifax quickly passing the buck to the third-party vendor, a question emerges: Was Equifax’s website compromised or is the company just collateral damage?
How to Train Like a First Responder
to Workplace Violence Events
By Jay Hart
Once a subject seemingly relegated to the occasional news report or
movies and TV, the reality of active shooter incidents has steadily crept into the social consciousness at an alarming rate. Such events have taken place an average of 18 times per year over the past five years, more than double the same period a decade earlier.
As organizations seek to adapt to this growing concern, a greater focus is being placed on what a person can do to be safe and how to impart this vital information.
