Mission: Unhackable
By now, most of us are aware of the fact that anything connected to the Internet can be hacked. It’s essential for us try protecting ourselves, but there is only so much we can do. One thing that recently showed up on our radar at Security Today was the United Kingdom issuing strict security requirements for connected vehicles. UK government offi-
cials want these cars to have minimal vulnerabilities and to use limited amounts of personal data. With the topic of autonomous vehicles rising, it is important that every government should con- sider the security risks that may come with self-driving cars. And working out vulnerabilities and other risks before the onslaught of consumers buying and using autonomous vehicles is critical. Security should be a top priority among all vehicle manufactur- ers. Hackers be warned: if the UK government is involved in these security requirements, other governments will be following suit if they haven’t already.

Burglar’s Perspective: Why You Need Tighter Garage Security
By Roger Gallager
There are three types of burglars: the amateur-opportunist, the semi- pro, and the professional. You would not have to worry too much about the professional ones, as they can be very deliberate about their targets. They are most likely after stuff that are bigger than what you’ve got. The real risk comes from the amateur and semi-pro ones, as they come aplenty and tend to blend with the background. Many of these thieves are young male teenagers who live nearby. Amateurs tend to spend only a few hours casing a residence, while the semi-pro may scout your neighborhood for a week or so. Either way, once a burglar has decided to rob your home, he would be in and out in a matter of minutes.
Safe and Secure: A Look into Artificial Intelligence Technology
By Zelda Beckford
Every second the world as we know it is changing for the better and for the worse. This perception varies person to person, city to city, and state to state and can spark endless debates on how to keep our children, our family and our world safe. In step with our ever evolv- ing world is the lightning fast speed in which technology science has immersed itself into our everyday activities. Specifically, it is the way in which the complex phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence Tech-
nology (AIT) has become a subconscious normal interaction in our daily lives. AIT is everywhere. It has shaped the way we interact with the companies and businesses we patronize, either through chat as- sistance, e-mail spam algorithms, or fraud security monitoring for suspicious activity.

Sharks and Hackers: A How-To Guide on Biting Back
By Robert Sheilds
Growing up in Florida, Trinidad and the Bahamas, I learned early on that sharks had to be taken seriously. While recently watching Shark Week, it got me thinking about security and how, as with sharks, you need to follow a few simple and common-sense precautions to reduce your risk of danger.
