CASE STUDY: Educational Laboratories Meet OSHA & ANSI Compliance Requirements with Hand Wash Sink and AXION® Eye/Face Wash

BACKGROUND
A medical research education facility, renowned for its expertise and commitment to excellence, operates a wide range of facilities across an extensive campus. To maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance for staff and students, the facility undergoes regular audits. These audits play a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s adherence to crucial USP, OSHA and ANSI requirements, thus safeguarding the well-being of its staff and students
OBJECTIVE
The campus faced challenges when the need to retrofit eye/face washes in areas with essential hand washing capabilities became evident. In addition to meeting ANSI requirements for eye
wash installations, these locations needed to prioritize ease of maintenance and address potential water hazards and flow performance issues associated with traditional multiple-head eye washes. Furthermore, the facility staff encountered additional complexities, as the installation locations often lacked the necessary services and wall space for a separate plumbing fixture deployment
SOLUTION
The school looked to install upgraded eye/face washes within a hand sink at existing single hand wash sink locations without incurring substantial costs or undergoing lengthy remodels. Through a comprehensive evaluation of various competitor eye/face washes and products, the organization ultimately chose to adopt the Haws model 7660 (Hand Wash Sink with AXION Eye/Face Wash)
These products provided a complete, turnkey solution, incorporating stainless steel sinks with integrated AXION MSR eye/face washes and touchless hand wash faucets. Additionally, the sinks were equipped with a thermostatic mixing valve to supply tempered water for both eye washing and hand washing. The Haws hand wash sink with eye/face wash proved to be an ideal fit for the organization’s requirements
RESULTS
By implementing the Haws eye/face wash units, the facilities were able to leverage existing hand wash sink locations with minimal disruption. This strategic decision allowed the school to bypass costly and time-consuming remodels, achieving installation efficiency while meeting compliance requirements
