PROJECT OF DISTINCTION
MEEKER HIGH SCHOOL ADDITION & RENOVATION MEEKER SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-1
MEEKER, CO
THE ADDITIONS AND NEWLY
renovated Meeker High School will serve 300 students in 86,138 square feet.
The new, two-story core classroom learning pod is orga- nized into four studio clusters. Each cluster wraps around centralized student team cen- ters and a core stair that allows for easy movement from the ground floor and upper level. The classroom environments are connected both physically and visually, allowing their use to flow into common or shared spaces naturally.
The main school entry, administration, community com- mons and auxiliary gymnasium make up the added components that are a part of the central- ized community elements and act as the welcoming face to the community. This central area of the school creates a multi-use “Community Heart” for town events and gatherings centered on athletics, performing and fine arts, and the dynamic commu- nity commons.
Metal and Wood Tech, Fabri- cation, Food and Plant Sciences were repositioned in the new de- sign, and robust infrastructure was integrated to support these continually growing programs.
Natural stone, wood timbers, masonry and metal panels work together in a palette that is regionally comfortable. Large expanses of glass and openings from all learning spaces create natural connections to the beautiful outdoor environment of Northwestern Colorado.
