THE GENESEE VALLEY
Central School District serves 593 students (PK-12) and spans 117 square miles of rural terrain in the southwest corridor of New York State. As a “high needs” district challenged by
a weak economy with limited opportunities and resources for families, the 2018-19 capital project sought to enhance learn- ing and promote wellness for the community.
The centerpiece of the project features an “Innova- tion Center” designed to foster learning within Genesee Valley’s STEAM curriculum. A large central maker space is sur- rounded by additional spaces— a technology shop, art room, computer lab and design studio. This architectural layout allows
a student to take a project from inception, research, prototyping, to final build and presentation without needing to leave the space.
As a full-service community school, Genesee Valley seeks to provide for the wellbeing of stu- dents and families. The capital project strengthened Genesee Valley’s status as a community hub with the addition of a fitness center and a school-based health room that provides much- needed dental and medical care to students.
Each component of the capi- tal project moved Genesee Valley further along in its mission to “champion education, a healthy lifestyle and community involve- ment by incorporating resources to inspire and empower all to be successful in life.”
