After four years as editor of OH&S, I can say that these things are still true, but I’d like to expand on the second. Not only is this safety and health community filled with kind people, it is built by passionate professionals on a mission for change. With each conversation I had, article I edited or wrote, podcast I recorded, or webinar I moderated, I saw a fierce amount of dedication I have never seen in an industry before. This isn’t about business and it isn’t about bottom lines. At the end of the day, you are here because you care about your people. I’m now asking you to care about—and for—one more person. I’m thrilled to be passing the OH&S editor torch to longtime B2B editor David Kopf. I’ve personally worked with David and know him to be a charismatic professional with the capacity to be as passionate about worker health and safety as you are. I will miss this close-knit community fiercely, but I know you are in good hands with David. SYDNY SHEPARD Outgoing Editor, OH&S magazine . The word that personifies this magazine, its readers, and what they do is a word Sydny used in her column: “care.” Sydny and I are both editors and in that work, every editor feels a calling to make a difference. We want to give people information that helps them. When it comes to working on business publications, we try to give professional readers information that will help them make a positive impact in this world. In short, we want to help those who care for others. And in that pursuit, I have been fortunate. I’ve worked as a journalist serving the telecommunications industry when it was building out the wireless and broadband services we use today. I’ve also served readerships in healthcare that have revolutionized post-acute care for a wide range of patient groups. And now I find myself stepping in to continue the tradition of care that Sydny fostered—and already I feel very welcome. Besides the team at Occupational Health & Safety, numerous folks in the industry have offered me a very warm welcome into the industry. Occupational health and safety professionals play a critical role by keeping people safe, and I intend to ensure that this publication keeps helping them do just that. Why? Because you care.
