monitoring and a mobile workforce, while sound level meters can be used to check areas or an individual’s exposure for a sta- tionary task.
Noise exposures are monitored using established technology and are the respon- sibility of occupational hygienists, a health and safety manager, or another trained expert. Data collection provides concrete information highlighting key paths for change and can help the organization to achieve compliance with government stan- dards and protect its workforce effectively.
To increase the success of workplace noise monitoring, workers must under- stand its importance and the long-term, negative health effects that could result. If noise monitoring technology is used, quantitative data can be captured and any risks or potential areas of concern can be identified.
Justin Stewart is Casella’s area business manager supporting Casella’s health, safety, and environmental boundary-monitoring solutions. He assists in the reduction of workplace and environmental health expo- sures through the supply of effective moni- toring solutions for noise and dust. Prior to joining Casella, Justin was responsible for sensor application support for a global manufacturer, where he assisted in the field across a range of parameters including acoustics and vibration measurement. He is particularly experienced within the aero- space and defense industries and uses his in-depth knowledge of sensors, wireless data transmission, and IH monitoring to support occupational assessment programs.
Casella, a leading provider of air sam- pling, noise, and vibration monitoring solu- tions, has pioneered the path of employee remote monitoring with Bluetooth®-enabled devices for both noise and dust. Noise moni- toring devices make data more readily avail- able, ensuring increased productivity and employee safety.
