Business Moves
■ PIP Global Inc. recently announced the acquisition of Califor- nia-based Hearos LLC, along with its recognized brands of hear- ing protection and a state-of-the art, high-capacity manufacturing facility. Hearos’ founder, Doug Pick, who launched the Hearos® brand in 1992, and his entire leadership team joined PIP as a result.
“This is a very significant deal,” said Joe Milot, president and CEO of PIP Global. “Together with the Hearos team, we are now a leading manufacturer of innovative ear plug technologies.” The Hearos acquisition is an important step in realizing PIP’s mission of being the leader in the consumable safety products industry.
Pick, who will now serve as the president of Business Devel- opment for Hearos, LLC, described this new venture as a turning point for the company he built. “Joe Milot and the members of the Audax deal team share our passion and can provide the necessary investments to drive exponential growth for the future,” he said.
Hearos LLC will continue to operate out of its California lo- cation, marketing and selling its brands of ear plugs to retail and specialty market channels that include hardware, grocery, food and drug, and general merchandisers. PIP will market the products to the industrial safety channels globally through its extensive dis- tributor network.
California Agency Recommends Chlorpyrifos Curbs
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has recom- mended new interim restrictions on the use of the pesticide chlorpyrifos. The new measures will provide increased protections from potential exposure to the pesticide while DPR completes a formal regulatory process to list chlorpyrifos as a toxic air con- taminant and develops permanent restrictions on its use.
DPR recommended that county agricultural commissioners begin implementing the interim measures on Jan. 1, 2019. “DPR has been working with growers for years to find alternatives to this pesticide while also taking action to curtail its use through the regulatory process,” said DPR Director Brian Leahy. “These interim measures represent a significant step in our ongoing effort to pro- tect human health and the environment.”
The interim measures include these:
■ Banning all aerial applications of chlorpyrifos
■ Discontinuing its use on most crops; chlorpyrifos will be
restricted to “critical uses” on crops for which there are few if any alternative pesticides, as determined by the University of California Cooperative Extension
■ Requiring a quarter-mile buffer zone during all allowed ap- plications of the pesticide and for 24 hours afterwards
■ Requiring a 150-foot setback from houses, businesses, schools, and other sensitive sites at all times, regardless of whether the site is occupied at the time of application
