On the Move
R. Marc Kippen is the
first recipient of the Los
Alamos Global Security
Medal, with Los Ala-
mos National Labo-
ratory announcing it
Sept. 24 and reporting
it recognizes his inno-
vative professional and
scientific excellence supporting the labora- tory’s global security mission—specifically, Kippen’s leadership and achievements in developing, promoting, and sustaining na- tional security capabilities and programs in space-based sensing and nuclear detona- tion detection. “Marc Kippen has dedicated his career to the laboratory’s national secu- rity mission,” said Terry C. Wallace, Jr., director of LANL. “Los Alamos has a long and storied history in monitoring nuclear explosions, and Marc has been a leader in the space-based nuclear detonation and de- tection program. He has designed satellite hardware, played a key role in interpreting data collected by those satellites for nation- al monitoring techniques, and has been an architect of the national policy to continue to monitor from space. It is an honor to award Dr. Kippen the first Global Secu- rity Medal.” Established earlier this year, the medal recognizes exceptional achieve- ments of active or recently retired labora- tory employees who have made significant contributions to the LANL global security mission. Kippen is the Nuclear Detonation and Test Detection Program manager for the Nuclear Nonproliferation and Security Program. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of New Hampshire, is a graduate of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Management Institute, and has published more than 200 articles in scien- tific journals and conference proceedings. . . . In September, the board of directors of the American Association of State High- way and Transportation Officials elected Carlos Braceras, P.E., executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation, to serve as its new president and Missouri DOT Director Patrick McKenna as its vice president. “I’m honored and inspired to ac- cept the role of AASHTO president during this inflection point in transportation his- tory,” said Braceras. “State DOTs are facing new challenges on several fronts. As tech- nology develops rapidly, we as owners need
to adapt proactively to operate safer, more effective transportation systems. Attract- ing and keeping a highly skilled workforce is critical. It’s also imperative that we find ways to educate lawmakers and members of the general public about the irrefutable connection between long-term invest- ment and safer, smarter, and more reliable transportation systems.” Prior to the Sept. 24 election, Braceras was AASHTO’s vice president and secretary-treasurer. McK- enna has served as director of the Mis- souri Department of Transportation since December 2015; he previously was deputy commissioner of the New Hampshire De- partment of Transportation. At the same time, AASHTO announced its new execu- tive director: James J. Tymon, the organi- zation’s chief operating officer and director of policy and management. Tymon, who joined the association in 2013, will assume his new role when the current executive director, Frederick “Bud” Wright, retires Dec. 31. “This is an incredible opportunity to lead an organization that has been at the forefront of transportation in America for more than a hundred years,” said Tymon. “Under Bud’s leadership, AASHTO has ad- opted a strategic plan that has positioned us to work smarter and be more nimble as we respond to changes and meet the needs ofourmembers.”....

Business Moves
■ NuTrend Disposables announced its merger with Adenna on Sept. 28, saying the merger was effective immediately.
The new entity operates under the single name Adenna.
Adenna markets hand protection and infection control products worldwide. In- dustries served include dental, automotive, tattoo and body art, industrial, safety, cor- rections, laboratory, cosmetology, and vet- erinary care. NuTrend Disposables made its name as a manufacturer and supplier of disposable wipers, rags, safety products, and washroom essentials, with a focus on serving the industrial, safety, and contrac- tor supply distribution channels. The new Adenna offers disposable and work gloves, wipers, rags, microfiber products, sorbents, air care, toilet seat covers, infection control, PPE, and personal care items.
“When we looked at combining Ad- enna and NuTrend, it was evident we could bring greater value to our customers with an expanded product offering, channel- specific sales leaders, cutting-edge market- ing, and outstanding customer service. The convenience, quality, and value created for our customers is unmatched,” said Tom Friedl, president and CEO of The Tran- zonic Companies, the parent company of both Adenna and NuTrend.
Adenna, founded in 1997, became a sister division to NuTrend Disposables and HOSPECO in February 2017.
