On the Move
Milliken & Company’s board of directors announced the appoint-
ment of Halsey M. Cook
Jr. as president and CEO,
effective Sept. 1, 2018,
and that J. Harold Chan-
dler will return to his role
as chair of the board of
directors. “The board of
directors is confident that
Halsey is the right leader for Milliken’s next era,” said current Chair, President, and CEO Harold Chandler. “He has the experience to accelerate what is working very well to- day at Milliken and, importantly, introduce change where the organization can fur- ther leverage our emphasis on innovation, manufacturing excellence and customer care. He will lead an organization with a proven management team that knows how to translate strategy into effective execution and sustainable results. His experience in growing diversified, global businesses and his leadership style are an excellent fit for Milliken’s values, culture and commitment to the community.” Cook’s 30-year career leading a wide range of large, diversified global businesses with significant manufac- turing and distribution networks has pre- pared him to lead family-owned Milliken, according to the company’s news release. Most recently, Cook was the president and CEO for Sonepar USA, a family-owned global distributor of electrical products and related solutions. . . . The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has hired Jennifer McNelly as its
new executive director,
effective Aug. 16. She is
the society’s eighth ex-
ecutive director since it
was founded in 1911. Mc-
Nelly brings 30 years of
association, government,
regulatory, and business
experience to the role and will work with the society’s board of directors to execute ASSP’s strategic plan for continued growth, leading 75 staff members. The society’s members include more than 37,000 safety and health professionals worldwide. “Jen- nifer is a strong fit for ASSP and will help continue our growth and champion our new brand,” said ASSP President Rixio Medina, CSP, ASP, CPP. “Her breadth of
experience and proven success will be a key asset to our global members as we highlight the value of our profession, strengthen the society’s position as a leading voice, and foster a collaborative culture of member engagement, performance, accountability, innovation, and service.” McNelly most re- cently was president of Indianapolis-based 180 Skills LLC, an online career and tech- nical education company. Prior to that, she was president of The Manufacturing Insti- tute, the nonprofit affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. “ASSP is one of the most respected professional associa- tions in the world, and I am honored and excited to guide the organization in execut- ing its mission as a global occupational safe- ty and health leader,” McNelly said. “Sound safety practices are socially responsible and good business, leading to increased pro- ductivity, a better reputation, and higher employee satisfaction. I look forward to working with ASSP’s volunteer member- ship, exceptional staff, and dedicated board of directors to make a real difference for the profession and our members around the globe.” She replaces Dennis Hudson, who is retiring after two years as ASSP executive director and 11 years at the society overall. . . .The Center for Health Design (Con- cord, Calif.) has launched a safety toolbox for the health care industry, in partnership with Grainger. The toolbox (https://www. healthdesign.org/topics/safety) contains a library of newly created and staff-curated content, such as research findings, expert insights, strategies, and other useful re- sources connecting the built environment to better health outcomes and reduced cost of care. All safety materials produced for the toolbox are available and free to all un- til July 2019. . . . Norman Waterman has joined Custom Equip-
ment, LLC (Richfield,
Wis., www.hybridlifts.com)
as its Northeast U.S. terri-
tory manager. Waterman
is focusing on bringing
the productivity, ease of
use, and safety benefits of
the company’s lightweight,
low-level scissor lifts to more rental centers and contractors in the area. “Norman has a visceral understanding of the construc- tion rental landscape and he knows what customers need to be successful,” said Dan Schneider, Custom Equipment LLC vice
president of sales. “We’re looking forward to seeing him champion our products.” Wa- terman has more than 20 years of construc- tion sales experience, which includes five years with National Equipment Services (NES Rentals).
