Sheila Eads, president and Chief Execu- tive Officer of ERB Industries, was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Safety Equipment Asso- ciation (ISEA) at the association’s Annual Meeting in November 2017. Craig Wal- lentine, global business development pa- nager from DowDuPont, was elected vice chairman. The membership also elected industry leaders Brian Myers from the 3M Personal Safety Division and Kelly Kolb from Kimberly-Clark Professional to seats on the Board of Trustees. Continu- ing members of the board are Nate Kogler, director of Product Management, Bradley Corporation; John Kime, chief operating officer, Avon Protection Systems; Charles D. Roberson, senior vice president, Lake- land Industries; and Tom Votel, president and CEO of Ergodyne. . . . The Nuclear Regulatory Commission recently appoint- ed Vesna B. Dimitrijevic, Ph.D., to serve a four-year term on the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. The committee ad- vises the commission, independently from the NRC staff, on safety issues related to licensing and operation of nuclear power plants, health physics, and radiation pro- tection. Before joining the committee in November 2017, Dimitrijevic was a techni- cal consultant for AREVA, Inc., serving in a variety of technical leadership positions. There, she performed Probabilistic Risk Assessment studies for new reactor designs and certifications, including the AREVA U.S. evolutionary pressurized-water reac- tor and very-high temperature reactor, and she has provided leadership for more than 30 risk-informed PRA applications for var- ious nuclear plants, according to the com- mission, which reported she has authored or co-authored more than 20 journal pub- lications and conference papers, includ- ing topics on applying probabilistic risk assessment, risk-informed in-service in- spection methodology, and risk-informed decision making processes. The commit- tee’s 15 members are individuals with a wide variety of engineering expertise; the current chair is Dennis C. Bley, president of Buttonwood Consulting, Inc. in Albu- querque, N.M. . . . . The American Heart Association announced Dec. 1, 2017, that Robert A. Bradway, chairman and CEO of biotech company Amgen, is now a mem-
ber of its CEO Roundtable, which is AHA’s leadership collaborative—more than 35 CEOs “who represent some of the nation’s largest employers committed to applying evidence-based approaches to improve their employees’ overall health and the health of their communities,” according to the association. “Our CEO members have a shared commitment to integrate health and well-being into the overall fabric of their workplaces and into their commu- nities,” said Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association. “We’re de- lighted to have Bob join us on our journey to build a culture of health and well-being, especially for patients facing life-interrupt- ing illnesses.” Bradway said he’s honored to join the CEO Roundtable “to share our experiences and learn from others how best to promote a culture of heart health in America’s workplaces and beyond.”. . . . The DPA Buying Group, www.DPASafety.com, welcomed six new distributor members to its safety products division in early De- cember 2017: Alaska Safety (Anchorage, Alaska); American Safety Distributors, Inc. (Miami, Fla.); eSafety Supplies, Inc., dba Cadbury Supply (City of Industry, Ca- lif.); Oil and Gas Safety Supply (Washing- ton, Pa.); PowerPak Civil & Safety (Con- gers, N.Y.); and Safety Max (Albany, Ga.). DPA also announced it had added four new preferred supplier members: Paulson Manufacturing Corp. (Temecula, Calif.); Kent Safety (Northbrook, Ill.); Kong USA (Northbrook, Ill.); and R&B Fabrications, Inc. (Northbrook, Ill.).
Awards &
Recognition
■ Dennis Hudson, executive director of the American Society of Safety Engineers, recently was honored with the President’s Distinguished Service Award by the U.K.- based Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The presentation oc- curred in November 2017 at the IOSH an- nual conference in Birmingham, England.
The award honors the work and achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to IOSH or the occupational safety and health profes- sion for several years; Hudson was recog- nized for his work to advance workplace safety and raise the level of the profession.
IOSH President Graham Parker, left, presented the President’s Distinguished Service Award in November 2017 to Dennis Hudson, executive director of the American Society of
Safety Engineers.
“I presented Dennis with the award with great pride,” said IOSH Immediate Past President Graham Parker, CFIOSH, who served as the IOSH president from November 2016 to Nov. 21, 2017. “I’ve had the privilege to work with him and gain insight into how he has guided ASSE and others to a position of great impact.”
ASSE noted that, by honoring Hudson in the ceremony that traditionally rec- ognizes IOSH members, Parker brought attention to the shared goals of the two organizations. “It’s not about safety orga- nizations competing against one another,” Hudson said. “I’ve often said that our safety community is too small to compete on is- sues related to the profession. I think this award demonstrates that the safety com- munity is coming together.”
