INDUSTRY UPDATE
Awards & Recognition
■ The Urgent Care Association of Amer- ica (UCAOA, www.ucaoa.org) announced its 2017 award recipients for quality and safety, community service, humanitar- ian work, and outstanding achievement on May 2. The awards recognize members— UCAOA’s members are more than 2,700 centers representing approximately 27,000 urgent care clinical and busi- ness professionals—for their significant achievements on behalf of the association and in their communities and the field of urgent care.
Receiving the Quality & Safety Award was the Antibiotic Resistance Action Cen- ter at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington Uni- versity for its work to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in agriculture and ambula- tory care settings. Other recipients are Lake After Hours and Lake Urgent Care centers (Baton Rouge, La.), receiving the Com- munity Service Award for significant vol- unteer contributions that helped that com- munity after flooding in August 2016; Dr. John Koehler (Rockford, Ill.), receiving the Humanitarian Award for volunteer work in the past 12 years with the international organization Circle of Love Foundation; and Dr. Bruce Irwin (Birmingham, Ala.), receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award for significant clinical, managerial, and/or administrative achievements in the field of urgent care medicine.
“The 2017 UCAOA Award Recipients are a wonderful representation of the ur- gent care industry,” said Laurel Stoime- noff, PT, CHC, chief executive officer of UCAOA. “These individuals and organiza-
tions are passionately committed to provid- ing access to safe, quality medical care, and in many cases addressing unmet needs in communities here and abroad. They em- body the standard of excellence we strive for as the association that serves those who deliver and support urgent care medicine.”
■ Mike Conner of the federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforce- ment (www.bsee.gov) was honored by the Offshore Technology Conference Awards Committee with the Heritage Award on May 2, recognizing his achievements and contributions to the offshore oil and gas in- dustry, specifically his balanced and logical approach to deepwater and subsea technol- ogy. “When I think of someone who epito- mizes BSEE’s philosophy of ensuring the safety of offshore oil and gas operations, I think of Mike Conner,” said Lars Herbst, BSEE’s Gulf of Mexico Region director. “From an idea’s inception to its final design and usage, he engages industry with consis- tent, analytical, and thorough feedback.”
Conner has contributed to more than 300 deepwater projects and deepwater (continued on page 100)
