Acquisition Updates
NSM Expands in Presence in Northeast
National Seating & Mobility’s (NSM) service to the Northeastern part of the United States has just become more robust in both the complex rehab and the home accessibility markets.
In a May 20 news announcement, NSM said it had acquired Living Free Home, a home accessibility busi- ness. Living Free Home had locations in Madison, N.J., and Boston.
Bill Mixon, CEO of NSM, said about the acquisition, “NSM is proud to expand services to individuals with disabilities and health challenges throughout the Northeast. We look forward to fostering relationships with clinicians in the area and furthering the availability of mobility solutions nationwide.”
Living Free Home was established in 2003 and focused on stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, ramps, auto lifts, ceiling track lifts, incline lifts and bathroom modifications. Owners Tom Krieck and Rich Kantor are both transi- tioning to the NSM staff as part of the agreement.
CRT Addition in New Jersey
Then in a June 3 news announcement, NSM said it had acquired CMC Adaptive Seating and Homecare, based in Whippany, N.J.
NSM said it will serve clients in New Jersey and New York from this newest location.
Founded in 2002, CMC Adaptive Seating and Homecare serves complex rehab technology clients and home medical equipment consumers. The company also provides equipment repair services and wound care services.
Owners Carlos and Patricia Collazo have joined NSM. ATPs Ian Holloway and Chris Horshal have also transi- tioned to the NSM team.
“With this expansion,” Mixon said, “we’re proud to be the leading provider of CRT in New Jersey and New York. We’re eager to work alongside healthcare professionals in the area to offer unique mobility solutions for their clients in need.” m
United Spinal & Permobil Foundation Partner on Tech Grants
Members of United Spinal will have the opportunity to apply for a power-assist or seat elevation grant from the Permobil Foundation.
Permobil’s non-profit foundation is offering grants for a Smart Drive power-assist unit for manual wheelchairs, or an Active Height seat elevation system for power wheelchairs.
The grants apply to new Permobil wheelchair orders only, and grants will be awarded based on financial need.
In a May 23 news announcement, James Weisman, President/CEO of United Spinal, said, “We’re thankful for the support of Permobil Foundation to empower our members to attain greater independence. Their partnership has helped us expand our mission to improve the quality of life for all people with spinal cord injury and disease.”
United Spinal members can apply for the grant online.
Non-members can sign up to join United Spinal online. United Spinal will forward completed applications
to Permobil for consideration. Applications must be approved prior to the Permobil wheelchair order being placed.
Ashley Davis, Executive Director of Permobil Foundation, said of the grant program, “The Permobil Foundation was created to enhance and build more impactful partnerships with our non-profit partners and to better fulfill a life of independence for end users. Since our launch in March 2017, we have supported more than 350 individuals and 250 non-profit organizations. Having partnerships with organizations like United Spinal allows us to take our mission a step further and reach more individuals, giving them normalcy and the independent life they need and deserve.” m
