Silver Symposium
At Its 25th Annual Meeting, National Seating & Mobility Demonstrates that the Journey Has Just Begun
ORLANDO, Fla. — When you reach the age and size of National Seating & Mobility (NSM), it can be difficult to convince people that you believe you’re just getting started. NSM has been in business since 1992, and has been a nationwide presence for many years. The company has 140+ locations and counting, including locations in Canada, and employs more than 1,800 people.
Yet at NSM’s annual symposium — in its 25th year in 2019 — much of the conversation focused on how this international business can continue to function as a nimble network of local providers. The talk was about how and why branch managers
and ATPs can be empowered to work autonomously based on the unique needs of their clients and their communities. And how NSM’s executive leadership, far from issuing
edicts from the top, instead aim to serve those branches and clients via what NSM CEO Bill Mixon repeatedly referred to as upside-down pyramid, servant-styled leadership.
At the Renaissance Orlando in February, NSM built on its new brand identity, officially launched at its symposium last year, and gave the industry an expansive look at the
company’s future.
A Vision, Expanded & Explored
In 2018, NSM introduced a new company mission statement and shared its vision and values for the future. If much of last year was about spreading the word and sharing the vision, this symposium was about taking the next steps.
By the numbers, the 2019 sympo- sium was big, with more than 700 NSM ATPs, vendor personnel and NSM corporate representatives convening in Orlando. In the expo, more than 60 manufacturers and service providers exhibited.
But even more important, Mixon said afterward, were the responses and numbers provided by attendees
More than 60 companies exhibited at NSM’s 25th annual symposium.
