NSM: On a Journey, with a Mission
In February, National Seating & Mobility CEO Bill Mixon told Mobility Management, “NSM has been on a trajec- tory of growth and evolution over the last several years, and it is important to ensure that our brand genuinely reflects who we are and where we are going as a company.”
At that time, the company was in the midst of unveiling a new logo and brand identity, which was emphasized and celebrated at the company’s annual symposium
in March. The symposium itself came at a new time (in the spring rather than the summer) and in a new city. NSM met in Orlando, Fla., after many years of gathering
our clients at heart. Our six core values are Honor, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork and Service. We were able to take those core values and have a lot of dialogue at the symposium about their importance and their connection to our mission of serving our clients. Many of our activities were oriented around reinforcing those core values.”
An example: The event began with community service.
“One of the things we do each year,” Buckley said,
“is some sort of local, community effort. So we had a large group of our folks visit a senior living home and
do repairs and maintenance on their chairs. They were super excited for us to be there and were waiting for us to arrive. It’s a great, uplifting way for us to continue to lead

our mission and serve others.”
“We spent a fair amount of time celebrating the power
of commitment,” Mixon added of the symposium. “We surveyed our ATPs and asked them to convey, using one word, the culture of NSM. We got a lot of feedback, but the single word that rose to the top was commitment and the notion of our commitment to our clients. It’s the notion of treating our clients like they’re family members, to try to provide the best service possible and treat folks like they’re members of the family.
“We shared stories about how, on a regular basis, we take care of members of our family or our extended family and how those folks get great service from the

in its corporate hometown
of Nashville, Tenn., or its summer sympo- sium favorite destination of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Throughout 2018, NSM has indeed grown at an impressive
rate. Acquisitions
of complex rehab technology (CRT) businesses are a regular occur-
rence, and they’re supplemented by the opening of new office locations as well. The provider’s latest additions, announced at press time, were acquisitions of Tri County Mobility in Goleta, Calif., and Seating and Mobility Solutions, Waco, Texas.
But Mixon and VP of Marketing Stephanie Buckley emphasized that acquiring CRT providers is only one part of a robust plan meant to guide NSM for years to come.
The Power of Commitment
Asked if the new brand identity played a major role in this year’s symposium, Mixon said, “Orlando was great because it was the first time we were able to roll it out to, on peak days, the 600 people who were there. We felt good about refreshing the mission and the vision.
“Relative to core values, we have an acronym: the word HEARTS because we have the best interest of
