Expert service and repair is a crucial component to complex rehab technology (CRT) success, and a new non-profit certification group is specifically targeting the professionals who keep clients on the move by keeping their CRT and DME in top shape.
The Durable Medical Equipment Repair & Training (DMERT) Group seeks “to establish standardized training guidelines and provide proper certification for repair technicians,” according to a May 17 news announce- ment from The VGM Group.
DMERT training is defined by three certification levels:
• Level 1: Basic medical equipment, including walkers, manual wheelchairs, hospital beds, scooters and Group 2 power chairs.
• Level 2: CRT manual and Group 3 power chairs, plus basic seating installation and adjustments.

• Level 3: Technicians are qualified to teach at the community college level or at other approved teaching venues.
DMERT-certified online courses were created by VGM, its U.S. Rehab CRT division, and FIOS DME Repair Training. Greg Packer, president of U.S. Rehab and a member of the DMERT Executive Oversight Board, said in the news
release, “We’re excited to announce the addition of the DMERT Group as a resource to ensure quality standards which will further strengthen the credibility of repair technicians — who are intelligent, focused and repair- minded individuals. This organization has a firm founda- tion and is advancing the certification for repair techni- cians that work in the DME and CRT arena.”
