December 2017
                   On the Rise
Per square inch, no page in this magazine gets fussed over, talked over, labored over more than our front cover. For every cover that actually goes to press, there are six to eight concept covers that go no farther
than a rst draft. But that’s okay; creating covers is fun.
Unless we’re creating a buyer’s guide cover.
It’s tough to create an appealing cover that has to last all year, yet be
generic in tone. If you succeed, your reward is doing it again 12 months later. Yay.
Mobility Management starts its 17th year in publication in 2018. That’s a lot of magazine covers, which is great. And a lot of generalized buyer’s guide covers, which is...okay. Not every cover can depict something as fascinating as
microclimate* or spasticity & seating*, right?
But this year, something happened on the way to our usual politically
correct, conservative and, ahem, slightly boring buyer’s guide cover.
I thought of carbon ber, titanium and aerospace aluminum.
I pondered pediatric clients and aesthetics and new options for early-
intervention mobility.
I wondered what the next horizons will be for tilt, recline and seat elevation,
now that options such as anterior tilt and seat elevation + driving exist. I thought about the power bases that will support those innovations.
Then I contemplated all the ways that clients can operate those power bases and those seating systems, even if their voluntary movement is relegated to a ngertip or a chin. I thought of studies being done to capture success stories, to measure outcomes, and to prove that the work you do every day is making a difference. That it’s keeping people
in their communities and out of facility living. That it’s preventing hospital stays and surgeries. That it’s putting clients in settings we wouldn’t have imagined would be possible just a generation ago: Places like classrooms, playgrounds, cars, airplanes, boardrooms and Capitol Hill.
I realized all that, and remembered goals like a separate Medicare bene t category, and — we created this cover that says, CRT on the Rise.
In the past, I might have been more conservative, and that cover blurb would likely have been CRT on the Move. But I look at your innovation, your achievements, your passion, and I think: Nope. We are rising.
Thanks for inspiring your clients, your referral sources, your payors (and me) to keep looking upward and to keep moving forward.
