National Seating & Mobility: On a Journey to Excellence
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Omni Nashville ballroom was big, and so was the crowd gathered there. As long-time National Seating & Mobility (NSM) ATPs exchanged handshakes and hugs with colleagues, they acknowl- edged there were a lot of new faces in the room, too.
NSM’s theme for its annual July Seating Symposium was A Journey to Excellence, and once again, all roads led home to Nashville, not far from the provider’s Franklin, Tenn., headquarters.
Client-Centric Culture
Over the years, the symposium has grown steadily, both in its number of attending ATPs and its exhibitor total, to become one of the largest complex rehab technology
Continuing
Expansion
Of course, over the
past few years, NSM
has also been working
on expansion, via both
organic growth and
acquisition. At the time
of the symposium in
July, 73 ATPs — basi-
cally, one out of five
at the event — were
symposium first-timers.
Right after the event,
Mixon said NSM had
added 21 branches in the last 12 months, a number that was soon obsolete as NSM announced two more acqui- sitions (the CRT divisions of Wright & Filippis and Alabama Wheelchair Specialists) in August.
Asked about the challenge of maintaining company- wide excellence during such rapid growth, Mixon said, “NSM’s leadership team is committed to servant leader- ship. Leading by example and cultivating a mission- driven mindset helps us to foster a client-centric culture.
“As we grow, we are committed to provide industry- leading offerings and programs for our team members and are working to build a best-in-class work environ- ment focused on valuing people, providing servant leadership and continually working to get better at everything we do every day on behalf of our clients.”
A group of NSM’s ATPs went the extra mile on the first day of the event, when they volunteered at a United Cerebral Palsy chapter.
“The annual NSM Symposium is the one time each year the company’s network of ATPs comes together with company leadership and suppliers,” Mixon
National Seating & Mobility CEO Bill Mixon addressed the largest group of ATPs in symposium history.
events in the country. NSM said more than
600 people came to Nashville, including 325 ATPs and additional corporate executives and department managers. On the manufacturer side, more than 90 companies exhibited in NSM’s largest symposium to date.
Bill Mixon, NSM’s CEO, told Mobility Management why excellence was the buzz- word at this year’s event.
“This theme encompassed the journey NSM team members are on together to chart a path for our industry and highlighted our commitment to achieve excellence in the delivery of services we provide for our clients,” he said. “We are continually working to get better at every- thing we do every day, striving to serve our clients more efficiently and effectively.”
Mixon described NSM’s culture as focused on the client: “Our pursuit of excellence is tied to our culture. The NSM client-centric culture is about collectively under- standing that what we do is serve a mission, and that we are best when we are working hard every day to provide the best solutions for our clients in the best way we can.”
