Innovation Takes Center Stage
This year’s Medtrade shines a spotlight on show-stopping new product advances, as well as services designed to boost providers’ bottom line.
By David Kopf and Leila McNeill
MEDTRADE 2018, slated for Oct. 15-17 at Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center, features an expo floor showcasing a wide range of HME product offerings, as well as services and products designed to help providers’ businesses. As you’ll see from
this year’s crop of products, they help providers offer new innovations, as well as tap into new care and revenue opportunities. Where business services are concerned, several new offerings should help providers fine-tune their operations as well as demon- strate their expertise to referrals. Here’s a roundup of some of this year’s showcase items:
Tiny nebulizer offers a convenient alternative to
traditional medication delivery
Smaller and lighter than a smartphone, The Flyp
Nebulizer is a pocket-portable, virtually silent nebulizer
that can be used at home or in a healthcare facility. The
all-in-one design means that there are no tubes or control
units—users just fill, click, breathe. FLYP uses an internal
disk that vibrates at an ultrasonic speed. When medica-
tion passes through the disk’s holes, it produces an inhalable aerosol mist, delivering medication deep into the lungs where it is most effective. Powered by a USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the device lasts 10 treatments. Convexity Scientific Inc.

Brightree integrates ePrescribe with athenahealth
Brightree’s new ePrescribe solution lets HME businesses digitally receive orders from more than 62,000 providers using
athenaClinicals within the athenahealth network,
the same way doctors have long referred
patients to other specialists. Previously, physi-
cian and HME staff had to manually send,
receive and process referrals and related docu-
ments via fax and phone calls. Now, any office that uses athenahealth can refer patients to an HME provider using Brightree’s eprescribe. Brightree LLC

Software gives providers a clear picture of POC use
GCE’s Clarity is an online platform that provides operational and usage information from the company’s Zen-O portable
oxygen concentrator (POC). This helps providers
optimize assets in order to ensure patients have
the right device, as well as manage patient adher- ence to prescription. Also, the device can help providers track the POC’s location using GPS and GSM/cellular technologies
