Sometimes, seeing is not enough. Dexta Robotics’ Dexmo is an exoskeleton handset that provides precise force feedback and captures a wide range of motion, allowing users to effectively touch the virtual world. Remote medicine and realistic training are just two of the many potential uses.
Big-data analytics, artificial intelligence and “hyperscale” applications all call for serious processing power, and IBM is aiming to win back market share from the x86 chips that still dominate many data centers. The newly announced Power9 processors will offer up to 24 cores on a single-die chip and promise dramatic performance increases while also saving power.
See-through VR
The user base for virtual reality-based diving helmets is admittedly limited. But the high-resolution, see-through display developed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division could deliver augmented reality in any number of other environments.
